The Purpose of Mediumship

Mediumship needs to have a specific purpose!

-To prove the continuity of life.

-To demonstrate survival.

-To prove that although loved ones are no longer here in the physical world they do live on in the Spirit realm.

-Communication with spirit to provide evidence to demonstrate life after death.

-Comforts the bereaved.

-Healing to both the recipient and the spirit communicator.

-Allowing spirit to come through to offer apologies or express things they didn’t while they were here.

-Provide guidance and advice from Spirit. Advice can be as good or as bad as if it was given from the person when they were here. Spirit will have the same personalities as when they were here.

-Bring awareness of our own true spiritual nature.

-To remember that if our loved ones have survived so will we.

-You are so much more than a body.

-It is a spiritual based process based in Love.

Why do you want to learn Mediumship?

Because it’s fun? Because it’s cool to talk to dead people? Because you want to be famous? Because you can make money doing it?

Well……

I’m hoping that none of those are your reasons! If they are you will definitely see why they are the wrong answers.

I believe that anyone who is “Called” to practice Mediumship will be doing it for the right reasons. Not everyone is born with the awareness of their gifts or strengths as a Medium. And for some like myself I didn’t start working with clients professionally as a Medium until I did a lot of Soul work on myself and was ready to receive the Guidance needed to take on this Experience. In order to do this work well and without it completely draining all of your physical energy you must figure out what your personal relationship with Spirit looks like and know what needs to be solidified and honored.

It’s one thing to be sensitive and have the ability to see Spirit.
And it’s a completely different thing to have skills and to be of service. 
Your focus should be on building your own spiritual foundation.
And everything else will fall into place.

There is no room for FEAR in the world of Spirit!

One thing that is SUPER important to do is create a clear intention on what your boundaries are and whether you will ONLY be going to work with Light energy and not Dark energy. There are some that can work in both worlds but not without a Incredibly Solid Spiritual Foundation. And I have witnessed first hand those who thought Ghost hunting would be really cool only to have them end up with anxiety, fear and a struggling career.

I’m sure that isn’t what you want right?!

And so what does this mean?

There are many different ways that you can be Of Service and work with Spirit. As for myself I chose early on in this lifetime to only work in the Light. I do know that in past lives I have also worked with Dark energy, and I would imagine that most Lightworkers have had both experiences just so that they can simply know the contrast between the two. They really are two different worlds!

Lightworkers can choose to do such things as- Physical Healings, Counselling, Guidance, Readings, Channelling, Writing and Speaking.

They can also choose to work in the Dark energy by doing- Space clearings, Physical clearings ( from psychic or other attachments), Spell removals and Hoo doo.

With the influx of wanna be Mediums unfortunately there has also been an influx of misinformation and some very missguided teachers who have not helped the cause. And the TV shows and movies are very helpful at building the imagination of the viewers and would have us all believe that there are in fact deadly spirits filling your attics and crawl spaces and that with a little sage you can send these lost Souls back to the depths of hell.

Well……

Not so much!

Don’t get me wrong. There are lower vibrational energies that can attach themselves to a person or a space but Spirit has shown me that they are much more like a parasites or a virus. So meaning that they don’t have any special super powers or weapons of mass destruction. However they do follow one of the same Laws or Rules that we all follow and that is -The Law of Attraction. This simply means that Like attracts Like. And so if you are a vibrational match to a lower vibrational being then yes they can definitely bring more fear into your experience. Just like if you don’t do anything to keep your physical body strong and build your immune system you will be susceptible to illness.

This is why CHOOSING to ONLY work in Light energy is vitally important to your experience.

Creating boundaries is also Incredibly Important!

Different Aspects of Mediumship

So back to why mediumship has to serve a purpose!

Interactions with Spirit must have intelligence behind it. Not just random noises or bumps in the night or messages that don’t make any sense.

There is nothing worse than someone who thinks that they are connecting with Spirit and then they give you some crazy random message that makes very little sense and carries no Spiritual weight at all. Or is just regurgitating the same very vague information that they just gave the last 10 people they read for.

I vowed that if I was going to be a teacher of Mediumship that I would let my students know how important it is to follow a Sacred Code of Conduct and that making sure their personal Spiritual Foundations were firmly in place before they started to deliver messages to clients.

So from this point forward in this course I suggest that you again create the intention that you will do your very best to keep Ego out of the equation and that you are offering yourself up to Spirit to become a clear Channel for Spirit to communicate through. This also means that you will always remember to ask your Guides and Angels for help on this path whenever you need to. They are so excited for you!

Here are some of the different aspects of Mediumship:

Evidential~Trance~Healing

Evidential: This style of Mediumship is when the Medium is able to validate facts about the Spirit that they are bringing through. This can include such things as names, dates, locations and ages. For example in Evidential Mediumship it would not be enough to start a reading by saying “I have your father here”. The Medium would actually have to establish with proof and validation who in fact they were bringing through. This could sound like this “I have an older male coming through. He is giving me the name of Bill and he is also saying Dad to me.” You can see the difference right?

A really good Medium will practice Evidential Mediumship as much as possible. Having said that…….

I should let you in on a little secret now. Spirit does not work for us! Rather we work for them. And so this means that there are no “Rules” that are set in stone and Spirit may change they way they communicate with you at any time. This means that you always need to be flexible. And keeping in mind that you are not the one who is in control will really help!

Trance: Trance Mediumship is when the Medium or Channel completely steps out of the way and allows the Spirit communicator that they are channeling to actually physically step into their bodies. I have practiced this type of Mediumship when I am bringing a Spirit through that is not necessarily a great communicator. It’s almost as if you become the surrogate body for them so that they can gain enough physical strength to come through and communicate. And without the anchoring of your physical body they just aren’t able to keep their vibrations low enough to connect with us here on earth. It really is a very cool way to bring through Spirit! It is also not easy for everyone to do because you have to be able to completely step out of the way and surrender control. Not something most people are very good at!

Healing: Healing will happen naturally in Mediumship when the timing is right. Here is a really important thing to remember…..

Code of Conduct

You are not the one who decides when and where you will be giving Messages from Spirit. What I mean by this is that you are NEVER to just randomly give messages to people even though you may feel that they need to hear what you have to say. There is an unspoken rule in the code of conduct that I spoke about before that states “We are never to give unsolicited advice or messages from Spirit. When Spirit wants you to give their messages they will and can do everything in their power to make sure that their people will come to you and ask for your help in a Reading when the timing is right. Please keep in mind how damaging it would be for someone to be given a message from a Medium that was not divinely guided! Not everyone wants to be healed. They must ask to be. Always remember this.

Mental & Subjective Mediumship

Mental-Active. Subjective –Passive.

Mental Mediumship is subjective as there is no way to prove validity. This is shown when a medium brings through a spirit or entity such as Jesus, Seth (Jane Roberts) or Abraham (Esther Hicks).

Physical Mediumship is objective. There is a physical phenomena that happens such as rapping or percussion. In order for this to be validated it must be able to be seen, heard and felt by everyone present.

The Fox sisters were very famous because of the intellectual patterns that the rapping in their house made.Modern Spiritualism started with the Fox sisters in 1849.

Shortly after the “coming of the spirits” to the Fox household, the story of the family took a more dramatic turn. The two daughters, Maggie and Kate, were both purported to have mediumistic powers and the news of the unearthly communications with the spirit quickly spread. By November 1849, they were both giving public performances of their skills and the Spiritualist movement was born. The mania to communicate with the dead swept the country and the Fox sisters became famous.

Materialization; Ecto plasm is extruded out of the Medium to form a physical materialized form which can walk around the room and touch people. In order for this to be validated everyone in the room must be able to see it. In the past séances would have a very low wattage red light that would allow everyone who were near the front to be able to see the forms.

Transfiguration ; ecto plasmic mask build up over the mediums and someone else’s face pulls off. If it’s not visible to everyone then again its not objective.

Levitation; Medium Danielle Dunglas levitated out of a window and into another window.

Telekinesis; Movement of objects done by spirit. Using our own energy to move items is called psycho kinesis.

Direct voice; An ecto plasm voice is built within the room and you hear voices. The spirit world can speak to us through this.

Electronic voice phenomena; A machine is used that plays white noise and the spirit voce can be heard between the static.

Spirit photography; photographic plates kept in a dark container would produce faces superimposed on the plates.

Evidential Mediumship is active. The Medium needs to make the connection and hold the link with Spirit and bring forth communication using the Claires.

Trance Mediumship is passive. The Medium allows Spirit to blend with them and step into their physical body. To do this the Medium must step back and allow.

Healing Mediumship is passive. The Medium attunes to the guides and helpers allowing healing energy to flow through them.

Spirit art or Spirit portrait is passive. The Medium is able to connect directly with Spirit guides and receive inspiration.

Automatic writing is passive. By passing the conscious mind the Medium is able to receive clearly messages from Spirit.

Gordon Higginson was a materialization Medium. He would hold a pen while doing a reading and allow Spirit to dictate. Medium Tyler Henry also practices this style while doing readings. Gordon was able to bring through 2 Spirits at the same time. This is an example of both passive and active Mediumship.

Different Types of Mediumship

Materialisation mediums, are a less well-known type of medium, but might certainly seem much more impressive to the sitters present during these sessions than voice channelling alone. Materialisation mediums are able to allow the Spirits with whom they are communicating to draw large quantities of ectoplasm from the body of the medium and to a lesser extent the other sitters present while in semi-darkness, thereby facilitating a means by which Spirits could actually become visible and therefore materialise either completely or in part.

One of the most famous of all materialisation mediums was Helen Duncan who carried out numerous successful séances whereby Spirits of the deceased would materialise completely in ectoplasmic form, and in such a form were able to communicate with all present on a one to one basis. Many of séances of materialisation medium Helen Duncan took place in the 1930’s and 1940’s during the time of the second world war, and therefore not surprisingly many of the Spirits who materialised were people who had been killed during the fighting. The services of Helen Duncan often provided very great comfort to bereaved relatives, many of whom were actually able to see, communicate with and hold conversations directly with their loved ones.

Over the years apparitions and mysterious objects that appear in the séance room have often left gifts. Today many haunted individuals are often speaking openly about the actual presents their friendly ghosts seem to leave just for them.

Paranormal investigation into apports is something that many are starting to see occur to those who lives and homes they are researching and documenting.

Many things are said to have happened at séances over the years. Physical Phenomena includes movement of items within the séance’s circle i.e. trumpet levitation, playing of the tambourine and other instruments, movement and levitation of the table itself and other items within the circle.

Paranormal Gifts are often made of Ectoplasm. These real solid objects have often been spoken of seemingly as real material objects that vanish in your hands before your eyes and those of witnesses. Ectoplasm is a supposed substance found in living creatures, it can be extracted from sitters at a séance’s or at a ghost hunt investigation and mixed with chemicals supplied by what many refer to as spirit chemistry to produce Physical real appearing Phenomena. It is a pliable substance and can be molded and formed into different shapes. and this is done by ghosts not humans. Many times people will fake this ecto substance or mist in ghost photos or even in a ghost hunting situation to fool others. The understanding or experiencing of it is often reserved for the select few that witness it.

It does not harm the séance sitters or ghost hunting individuals that comes upon it. Often in days gone by a game was that during séances many would pass it along to each others hands as it appeared in the darkness to glow a green or purple blue light. Often when taken and passed around from person to person at séances to give it energy, however ectoplasm is sensitive to white light and if the light is switched on suddenly the medium and sitters can be harmed if ectoplasm is in their hands.

Medium Estelle Roberts had a guide named Red Cloud and she would do séances and everyone in the circle would get a gift from the Spirit world. And then a voice would come out of the trumpet in the middle of the table. Spirit would build a voice box and use the trumpet to speak through. Then the trumpet would be passed around the table and  and the gifts would fall into your lap from the spirit world.
